ANCHOR OPENING-ANCHOR 1:
|
Hello, and welcome to “Business World News.”
In the past ten years, the Internet has
become a permanent fixture in how we communicate and share
information with each other. It’s difficult to imagine a
home or business that is not connected to the Internet
today.
|
|
ANCHOR 2: |
Our reliance on the speed that information
can be researched, transmitted, and received through the
Internet has become so vital, that now, there is a company
that has developed the technology for MOBILE broadband
Internet connectivity. DIRK PARSONS is in SAN LUIS OBISPO,
California with a report on the DataStorm from
GROUND CONTROL, and how it is helping revolutionize
communications for all types of organizations who need to
support remote operations.
|
|
REPORTER STANDUP:
|
That’s right, Marti. The DataStorm is a
godsend for a number of professions that work
from remote locations and need to stay connected
with databases and communication centers from
their headquarters or main offices.
|
|
REPORTER STANDUP: |
Imagine what a benefit this type of
technology is to rescue workers and emergency teams. For
example, DataStorm is now being used by the Visalia,
California fire department on their super high-tech HazMat
vehicle. HazMat is short for Hazardous Materials.

AND DATASTORM SYSTEM |
REPORTER VO: |
As you can see, this vehicle is equipped
with the DataStorm broadband system. The DataStorm allows
the Visalia HazMat crew, to research the chemicals at an
emergency site. It is also used as back up communication
system to stay in contact with their Command Center via
high speed Internet regardless of the distance or the
terrain.
This is the only Hazmat vehicle between
Fresno and Bakersfield.
|
|
REPORTER VO: |
GROUND CONTROL, the company behind the
DataStorm, also provides an exclusive telephone service
through this system that allows you to make a telephone
call anywhere in the world, even in locations where cell
phones do not work.
|
|
REPORTER VO: |
So, in addition to remotely accessing
database information and communicating via email or chat,
you can also maintain a live phone connection, which is
crucial to the time-sensitive nature of rescue work that
remote operations crews like this are often called upon to
perform.

Visalia Fire Dept.: Prompt Questions:
“How does the DataStorm enhance your crew’s capabilities?”
“How can you serve the public more effectively with these
enhanced capabilities?” |

|
REPORTER VO: |
In addition to public safety, there are
numerous applications for DataStorm’s broadband
technology. Security organizations, search & recovery
firms, and even offshore oil operations are using the
system.
|
|
REPORTER VO: |
Earlier this year, two GROUND CONTROL
broadband systems were deployed in Texas to aid in the
recovery of debris from the Space Shuttle Columbia
disaster.
|
|
REPORTER VO: |
Recovery crews used the systems to link
remote workers to the debris-search Command Center, and to
provide search authorities with broadband access to the
Internet. Searchers were able to digitize debris images
and catalogue retrieved material to create a database of
information.
|
|
TONY COLES SOUNDBITE: |
Explains how DataStorm aided the Columbia
debris recovery process (to the effect of):
-
Because the search
covered remote Texas locations in a 100-mile radius,
satellite was the only possible network technology capable
of providing authorities with quick broadband
connectivity.
-
Traditional,
ground-based connections do not reach these areas, and
they cannot be utilized in emergency scenarios.
|
|
TONY COLES SOUNDBITE: |
(To the effect of):
The fact that we also back up our product
with technical assistance and support 24 hours a day,
seven days a week is a major source of comfort to our
clients, as well. They see GROUND CONTROL as a valued
partner in their success.

Correlating B-roll |
REPORTER VO:
|
As the public becomes more aware of the
flexibility provided by mobile broadband technology, more
unique users are beginning to emerge. In San Luis Obispo,
California, the library system utilizes the DataStorm on
its Bookmobile to stay in contact with the library
headquarters on daily visits to remote areas of the
county.
|
|
REPORTER VO: |
In Hollywood, mobile production trucks
utilize the DataStorm to transmit location video footage
to studio executives in their offices.
|
|
REPORTER VO: |
Police and security firms throughout the
country are using the DataStorm system to identify images
of suspects at the scene of the crime.
|
|
REPORTER VO: |
Mark Wright, the founder and chairman of
Ground Control, says even RV owners are avid users of the
DataStorm technology. I asked him to explain why.
|
|
MARK WRIGHT SOUNDBITE: |
(describes to the effect of):
-
DataStorm is a
perfect fit for the large number of independent
professionals who own RVs because of value provided, ease
of use, and affordable cost.
-
RV owners value
their ability to work from anywhere but need to stay in
touch with their offices.
-
DataStorm was
designed to be easy to use with any PC. One “click” device
to get online in 5-8 minutes.
-
Cost is not a
barrier at $100 per month for broadband Internet anywhere
they go.
|
|
REPORTER VO: |
Ground Control developed the DataStorm
technology to be “user friendly”. Mark Wright say the
DataStorm has such a broad range of applications, from
corporate networks to government operations to the
independent professional.
|
|
MARK WRIGHT SOUNDBITE: |
-
Briefly describes
the origin of the DataStorm technology, and how Ground
Control adapted, modified, perfected it for the broad
range of applications it provides today.
-
Designed it to be
accessible--doesn’t require certification or special
licensing to operate.
|
|
REPORTER VO: |
Perhaps one of the most dynamic
applications of the DataStorm technology is that it offers
companies the ability to operate their own private
satellite networks that can be accessed independently from
the public Internet.
|
|
TONY COLES SOUNDBITE: |
(to the effect of):
The ability to protect sensitive
information and yet remain accessible to multiple user
locations has become a number one priority in the
corporate world.
With corporate espionage rapidly
increasing across the globe, many companies are taking a
closer look at high security broadband Internet systems
that can be customized to their specifications.
Ground Control is intent on developing
even more robust capabilities for our customers that will
keep them ahead of the technology curve. We approach our
client’s security issues as seriously as if they were our
own, because, for all practical purposes, they are.
|
|
REPORTER VO: |
Whether large companies with vast
corporate networking requirements, or the small
independent business operator, it is quite evident that
Ground Control is intent on remaining number one in the
mobile broadband Internet sector.
|
|
REPORTER STANDUP: |
One more note of interest. In the near
future, Ground Control plans to launch the DataStorm F3,
which will expand their system’s geographic reach to the
farthest corners of the Western Hemisphere.
In San Luis Obispo, CA I’m Dirk Parsons
for Business World News.

|
ANCHOR 1: |
Thanks, Dirk.
Fascinating stuff. Technology never seems
to stop advancing, and it sounds like the folks at Ground
Control enjoy the pace.
